Céphise is a river god of Attica, passing through the city of Athens before throwing himself into the Gulf of Saronic. He was the son of Pontus and Thalassa; he had Blue Nymph, Liriopé, the handsome Narcissus. He had an altar near Orope, which he shared with the nymphs, the god Pan and Achaelos. A temple was also built for him in Argolis; the fountain of Castalia at Delphi was under his protection, and in its waters Aphrodite and the Charites were pleased to come and bathe.
